Vision & Holes

Have you ever seen the movie "Holes"? There are a few scenes in that movie where they show a vast stretch of desert land and all you can see is dirt with a whole bunch of holes dug in it.

Without giving away too much of the plot, the reason that they are digging the holes is because they are looking for something. So they keep digging. The problem is that they don't seem to have a plan for their digging. One day they will dig in one area then the next day they are digging in a completely different area.

And they leave spaces between the holes. If they had dug one hole and then kept digging out from there they might have found what they were looking for quickly. But with the spaces between the holes they don't know if the thing they are seeking might be hidden from them, just outside their reach.

That's how we live a lot of the time. We try one thing and get a few feet into it, then we pick up everything and move to something different, then we move again, and again, and again . . . All the while we have a bunch of unfinished projects sitting around us dragging us down--into a hole as it were.

Vision will help you to avoid this. Vision keeps you looking up. It keeps you focused on the task at hand and moving outward from your starting point so that you can see what is hidden beneath the uncovered layers.

Vision will help you to find what you are looking for, eventually. It may be weeks or months or years later. It might even be an entire lifetime that you spend searching, but with vision you will succeed.

Vision will help you to not only dig the holes, but will also keep you going long enough to fill them back in. Vision will set your aim and cause you to move forward until the task is complete, the victory is won, the goal is accomplished.

What is your vision? Are you still working on what you started or have you lost your focus and moved away from your original goal?

Keep Digging!
