I've been a great at planning, but terrible at following through. Although I have a desire of how I have wanted my life to turn out I haven't had the aggressiveness to push through the obstacles. At the first sign of resistance I would just change my plans.
NO MORE!
If I live to the average life expectancy of an American woman of around 75 years, I only have 34 more years to reach my goals. I must start now!
So, keeping in mind the S.M.A.R.T. formula for setting goals (Goals must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) here are the three goals I will start with first:
- I will lose 20 pounds by May 1 by daily walking a mile, gradually working my way up to two miles, drinking a minimum of 64 oz. of water every day, drinking no more than 16 oz. of of soda a day, and controlling my portion sizes at mealtime.
- I will spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day in prayer and Bible reading/study by making this the first thing I do every morning after my personal grooming and caring for my baby's needs. I will use Kay Arthur's Inductive Bible Studies. I will also set a timer for thirty minutes when I begin my time so that I will not be tempted to stop early. I will have established this as a habit by May 1st.
- I will spend at least one hour a day writing for my business. I will follow my weekly plan of what to work on each day. I will set a timer to measure the time spent so that I will not be tempted to stop early. I will have established this as a habit by May 1st.
Iam only starting with three goals and I made them short term goals. As I explained to my son the other day when he commented that I wouldn't lose weight simply by taking a walk every day, that first I need to establish exercise as a habit in my life THEN I will start to push the weight lose/getting fit aspect of it.
I have to start somewhere so I will be just taking the next step. The next step for me is to establish habits. The other steps will follow because I am being aggressive about success.
Go for it!
